This custom lighting project was designed for a double-height private residence in Florida. The goal was to create a large vertical chandelier that could fill the open volume without becoming a heavy visual block. Using the Gabriel Chrome Chandelier as the design direction, we developed a multi-point composition with clear light modules, chrome details, and varied suspension lengths tailored to the architecture.
A Chandelier Designed Around the Architecture
The available installation zone measured approximately 3.7 × 2.5 meters. Instead of selecting one standard chandelier size and placing it in the center, the layout was planned around the entire vertical volume.
The clear modules were distributed across multiple ceiling points so the chandelier could occupy both the width and height of the space. This also allowed the composition to remain visually open when viewed through the upper-floor railing.
Using Different Drop Lengths to Build the Vertical Composition
One of the main decisions was the relationship between the ceiling and the lowest illuminated elements. A chandelier in a double-height space needs enough vertical length to connect the upper and lower levels, but the lowest pieces still need to remain clear of circulation and the main viewing area.
For this project, the hanging layout used several principal suspension lengths of approximately:
- 2.73 m
- 3.97 m
- 5.67 m
- 6.65 m
These different drops created layers rather than a flat line of light. The lowest portion of the finished chandelier was planned with approximately 2 meters of clearance from the relevant lower area.
Clear and Chrome for a Lighter Visual Effect
Because the chandelier occupies a large portion of the double-height space, material and finish were important. The project used a Clear & Chrome configuration.
The clear modules allow views through the fixture, while the chrome components provide definition without introducing a large dark frame. When illuminated, the individual points of light become more visible while the suspension remains relatively discreet.
The selected light temperature was 3000K warm white, giving the installation a warm residential appearance while keeping the clear components bright and defined.
The Chandelier Also Had to Work From the Upper Floor
A staircase or double-height chandelier should not be designed only from the ground-floor viewpoint. In this residence, the fixture is also visible beside the upper-level glass railing.
That meant the ceiling arrangement, spacing between drops, and upper portions of the suspension system were part of the visual design. The chandelier needed to appear organized when viewed from above as well as dramatic when viewed from below.
From Technical Drawing to Installation
Before production, the chandelier layout was translated into a technical drawing. For a multi-point installation like this, the drawing is important because the chandelier is not defined by one overall height alone.
The installation plan needs to coordinate:
- Ceiling mounting area
- Position of each suspension point
- Individual drop lengths
- Relative spacing between illuminated modules
- Lowest finished point
- Electrical connection and ceiling conditions
Planning these dimensions before installation helps avoid making major height and spacing decisions while the electrician is already working at ceiling level.
Checking the Installation Before the Lights Are Turned On
An unlit chandelier provides a useful way to review the physical composition. Without the illuminated points drawing attention, it becomes easier to inspect cable spacing, ceiling positions, overall balance, and the relationship between the fixture and the architecture.
The Completed 3000K Lighting Effect
Once illuminated, the individual clear modules become a field of warm light through the center of the double-height interior. Rather than creating one concentrated bright object, the light is distributed vertically across the space.
This is one reason multi-point chandeliers can work effectively in tall residential interiors: the composition can be adjusted to the architecture instead of forcing the room to accommodate one fixed chandelier body.
