Short Answer
Plan a staircase chandelier canopy by separating the ceiling plate, the pendant attachment points, and the complete decorative footprint. These measurements may differ substantially. A round plate can support staggered drops, while a long arrangement needs a plan that identifies its direction and each hanging point. Select the exact product configuration before coordinating the ceiling box, structure, beams, and access. Compare the six designs below for the questions their layouts raise, then obtain a dimensioned canopy and drop schedule. Fixture width alone does not establish canopy size, support requirements, or a permitted cable arrangement.
Three Different Ceiling Measurements
The canopy footprint is the outside size of the ceiling cover. The drop-point layout identifies where individual suspensions emerge or attach. The decorative envelope includes the outermost shades and their arrangement below. Record all three on the same plan, with a fixed direction and mounting reference.
A product image may show a plate from an angle that conceals its depth. A shade can also project beyond the plate. Use a dimensioned drawing rather than measuring pixels. The stairwell measurement guide provides the surrounding room information; the next step is coordinating that information with the actual ceiling assembly.

Six Layouts to Review
| Product | Confirmed comparison | Canopy question |
|---|---|---|
| White Multi Globe Opal Glass Pendant | 3-string option: 30 × 300 cm listed size | Which points support the strings and their repeated globes? |
| Tenza Modern Staircase Chandelier | 10- and 13-light options: 60 × 300 cm | How does the point pattern change at the same listed envelope? |
| Modern Raindrop Chandelier | Round and Long configurations | Which plate shape and orientation belong to the selected order? |
| Darlen Alabaster Staircase Chandelier | 9-, 12-, and 15-light options: 40 × 300 cm | Where is each slender shade suspended? |
| Waterfall Alabaster Chandelier | 5-light round canopy: 20-cm diameter | What is the complete shade envelope below that plate? |
| Ceramic Magnolia Staircase Chandelier | 16- and 22-light options: 50/60 × 250 cm | How are ceramic pieces distributed around the ceiling layout? |
Strings of Opal Globes
The White Multi Globe design is sold by string count, with repeated glass globes along the descending composition. Its 3-string size is listed at 30 by 300 cm. String count is not a canopy drawing or a count of every visible globe. Request the selected attachment pattern and the position of the complete strings, including their outer reach near railings.
Tenza: Different Counts in One Envelope
Tenza's 10- and 13-light options share a 60-by-300-cm listed size. The same outer dimensions can therefore contain a different number of suspended elements. It also offers styles with and without a ring. Keep the style, count, glass selection, and point layout together on the order drawing; changing one selection can change the composition without changing the quoted width.
Round or Long Raindrop Arrangements
Modern Raindrop offers Round and Long configurations. Its Round 13 Lights is listed at 90-cm diameter by 180-cm height, while Long 13 Lights is listed at 128-cm length by 180-cm height. The long option needs an agreed depth and orientation as well as length. Those listed fixture measurements should not be transferred to the ceiling plate without a drawing.
Darlen's Slender Stone Drops
Darlen uses alabaster shades specified at 6-cm diameter by 25-cm height. The 9-, 12-, and 15-light arrangements share a 40-by-300-cm reference. Include each shade's diameter around its hanging center when checking the decorative footprint. A point plan containing only small cable dots can conceal the actual reach of the stone below.
A Specifically Labelled Round Canopy
Waterfall provides round-canopy references, including 20 cm for 5 lights, 40 cm for 12 lights, and 80 cm for 24 lights. Its single lamp is 6 cm across and 30 cm high. Keep canopy diameter separate from lamp dimensions and the resulting outer shade envelope. A larger lamp count does not justify assuming a plate's internal structure or mounting method.
Ceramic Magnolia Drops
Ceramic Magnolia offers 16 lights at 50 by 250 cm and 22 lights at 60 by 250 cm. Compare the whole arrangement, not just the hanging centers. Confirm the plan for the selected ceramic shades and their finished lowest points. The cascade versus cluster guide explains the broader arrangement decision.
Build the Ceiling Plan
| Drawing layer | Include | Resolve before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture | Opening, beams, ceiling changes, railing line | Actual mounting location and any restricted area |
| Ceiling assembly | Plate outline, support and electrical connection | Product-specific dimensions and site review |
| Suspended arrangement | Numbered points, shade outlines, lowest levels | Exact configuration rather than a generic photograph |
Keep electrical and structural coordination with the project professionals. A decorative plate covering a box does not establish that the box can support the complete fixture. For a sloped or stepped ceiling, obtain the mounting proposal for that site rather than assuming every drop can start at the same elevation.
A Worked Plate Comparison
Suppose a hypothetical ceiling detail has a 100-cm-wide drawing zone. A centered 80-cm plate leaves a geometric difference of 10 cm to each side: (100 − 80) ÷ 2 = 10 cm. That compares plate edges only. Shades extending beyond the plate, nearby beams, installation movement, tolerances, and the support arrangement still need separate review.
This is a drawing exercise, not a prescribed clearance or installation approval. A smaller plate might fit the ceiling detail but carry a decorative arrangement that does not fit the stair opening. Use the staircase sizing guide for that wider check.
Prepare a Drop Schedule
Number each hanging point on the plan and use the same number in elevation. Record the selected shade, intended lowest level, and confirmed ceiling-to-lowest-point dimension. Do not treat cable length as complete installed drop. Agree how the arrangement will be checked before production and how the ceiling assembly can be accessed later.
The staircase buying checklist helps keep these decisions together. Retain the final drawing with the exact product and option, so a later adjustment or replacement uses the same reference.
Canopy Layout FAQ
Is chandelier width the same as canopy diameter?
Only when the specification explicitly defines it that way. The ceiling plate and decorative envelope are separate measurements.
Do equal-size Tenza options have the same light count?
No. Its 10- and 13-light options share a listed size but have different counts.
Can a Long Raindrop drawing be used for the Round option?
No. Keep the plate, point pattern, dimensions, and orientation matched to the selected configuration.
Does a large canopy prove the ceiling support is adequate?
No. The exact support, completed weight, connections, and ceiling condition require site review.
What should a drop schedule identify?
Each point, shade, intended lowest level, and confirmed complete drop, using the same numbering as the plan.
