A leather strap can be a visible decorative element within a light, while the mounting and wiring follow a separate engineered arrangement. Compare the shape and complete layout before assuming a strap can be shortened, folded or moved on site.
Short Answer
For leather strap lighting, compare the full fixture layout, the selected strap and shade options, and the documented suspension arrangement. A loop, a long belt and a stone bar suspended between straps have different widths, depths and lowest points. The visible strap length does not necessarily equal installed width or total ceiling drop. Choose the exact configuration first, then request a drawing that identifies mounting points, light-source positions and height definitions. Do not assume decorative straps are user-adjustable or load-bearing. Confirm material composition and care for the selected version; the product name alone does not establish leather type, construction or an approved installation method.
Compare three strap arrangements before sizing
Start with the light-bearing form. In a pendant with individual shades, the shades and connecting loops may occupy different depths. In a long belt with repeated glass elements, the installed span depends on its permitted curve and ceiling points. In a narrow alabaster bar, the stone body length is distinct from the suspension above it.
Next, separate shape from material. Ask which parts are leather, which are metal or glass, and how the selected strap color relates to the shade finish. Do not infer leather grade, tanning process or flexibility from a close-up photograph. Care instructions should identify the materials you will actually receive.
The six examples below include five strap-oriented designs and an Infinity alabaster loop form for silhouette comparison. A looping stone body should not be mistaken for a leather belt simply because both create curves in a room.
Read length, installed span, body height, and drop separately
| Measurement | What it describes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Belt length | Length of the specified strap assembly | Its horizontal span after curving |
| Fixture width and depth | The complete decorative envelope | Ceiling mounting-point spacing |
| Body height | Height of the light-bearing body | Total installed drop where suspension is separate |
| Total drop | Ceiling datum to lowest point | Permitted adjustment unless documented |
For multi-point designs, put each ceiling point on a plan and include the relationship to beams, windows and furniture. A curved strap may pass beyond the plan footprint of the lights beneath it. Review the side view and lowest point as well as the front elevation.
Two belts do not imply a single belt twice as long. A two-piece size option can also mean two separate light bodies rather than one continuous fixture. Confirm what is included in the selected configuration and how it is mounted before ordering.
Six Fixture Comparisons
Belts: choose the shade count and envelope together
Belts Pendant Light for Staircases with Leather Strap Rings Up to 59″H. Belts offers one-, three- and five-light configurations at listed diameter/height combinations of 120 × 80 cm, 80 × 120 cm and 100 × 150 cm. Shade colors include Orange and Black. More lights do not correspond to a steadily wider envelope here, so choose the exact configuration before comparing the room opening.
Girdle: belt length is not ceiling span
Girdle Modern Leather LED Pendant Lamp. Girdle lists a 300 cm belt in its one-belt/seven-light option and two 300 cm belts in the two-belt/fourteen-light option. Clear and Smoke Glass are selectable. Request the installed curve and ceiling-point layout; neither the belt length nor the glass count establishes the horizontal span in your room.
Infinity: a looping alabaster silhouette contrast
Infinity Alabaster Chandelier | Brass Leather Strap LED Hanging Light. Infinity presents looping alabaster forms as a contrast to exposed leather belts. Its size menu distinguishes several layout labels, including vertical and horizontal arrangements. Choose the exact illustrated form and obtain its matching drawing before comparing dimensions; a room photograph of one loop composition should not define the envelope of another option.
Up & Down: a narrow stone bar on straps
Up & Down Lighting Linear Brown Leather Alabaster Linear Pendant Lights Long 39“ 47”. The Brown Leather Alabaster linear pendant lists 100 or 120 cm body lengths, each 8 cm wide × 23 cm high. A combined option contains two pieces. The description explicitly excludes suspension from the body height. This makes it a useful comparison when you want a narrow horizontal stone body rather than hanging shade loops.
Beza: a long descending belt composition
Beza Leather Belt Pendant Light. Beza specifies Metal, Leather and Acrylic, with Brown or Black style options. Current selectable sizes include 60 × 100 cm, 80 × 120 cm and 120 × 180 cm, among others. Compare the complete chosen width/height combination with the room opening and request the corresponding ceiling-point drawing before finalizing the layout.
Mini Snaps: compare the whole modular configuration
LED Mini SNAPS Module Ceiling Alabaster Pendant Light with Brown Leather Straps. Mini Snaps offers alabaster light elements with White, Black or Brown Leather Straps options. The size menu ranges from individual vertical configurations to multi-light layouts, including a 12-light 56 × 56 × 244 cm option. Select the whole configuration by its dimensions and light count; do not assume separate elements can be rearranged freely.
A linear bar example: furniture fit versus installed height
The Up & Down Brown Leather Alabaster pendant lists a 120 cm long × 8 cm wide × 23 cm high body, with the height explicitly excluding suspension. Over a hypothetical 200 cm long table, centering that body leaves (200 − 120) ÷ 2 = 40 cm of table length at each end in plan. It does not tell you the installed lowest point.
For a hypothetical drawing with a 270 cm ceiling datum and a desired lowest point at 170 cm above the same floor datum, total drop would be 270 − 170 = 100 cm. If the 23 cm body sits entirely below the suspension connection, the nominal remaining portion is 77 cm. The actual connection geometry must be confirmed in the product drawing; the example is not a recommended hanging position.
For a belt-shaped light, ask for the permitted installed curve instead of converting the strap length into a width. The curved path and the ceiling span are different measurements.
Keep strap appearance separate from installation approval
Have the mounting instructions identify the structural support, electrical connections and any permitted adjustment. Do not punch new holes, trim a strap, move a light element or use a decorative belt as a support point unless the instructions specifically allow it. A photograph cannot demonstrate those capabilities.
For care and replacement, record the product, option and strap color. Ask whether a damaged decorative strap is separately replaceable and what identification is needed. Do not assume a leather conditioner suitable for furniture is suitable around the fixture’s stone, metal or electrical components.
If a custom span or drop is required, confirm the complete drawing, price and production details in writing. A custom request is not an assurance that any curve or dimension is available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I shorten leather straps during installation?
Only when the selected fixture’s instructions permit the adjustment. Confirm the method before ordering; decorative appearance does not establish that straps can be cut or modified.
Is belt length the same as fixture width?
No. A curved belt has a path length and an installed span. Obtain the layout drawing to confirm the width and ceiling points.
Does a two-piece option form one continuous light?
Not necessarily. It may contain separate bodies or belts. Confirm included pieces and their mounting arrangement for the exact option.
Are leather straps the structural support?
Use the mounting documentation to identify support and suspension. Do not infer a load-bearing function from visible leather.
How do I request a custom strap-light layout?
Provide the room plan, ceiling datum, furniture envelope and requested lowest point, plus the exact product. Final specifications, availability and production details need written confirmation.
