The repeated 23.6-inch diameter is part of the five-ring layout. They are two separate rings with their own canopy coordinates and suspension lengths. Label them by tier and position so equal-size parts are not exchanged during installation.

Should all five Staircase Quartz rings hang on one centerline?

No. The product images show the rings staggered across the large round canopy to follow a stair opening. Approve their plan coordinates against walls, rails and landings. The exact 39.4-inch outer diameter alone does not describe the complete ceiling footprint.
